Maharashtra FDA Issues Public Warning Against Three Cosmetic Products After Dangerous Mercury and Lead Levels Detected

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration has warned consumers against using Gori Beauty Cream, Face Fresh Gold, and Golden Star Beauty Cream after laboratory tests found dangerously high levels of mercury and lead. The regulator has ordered an immediate halt to their sale and distribution and urged the public to purchase cosmetics only from authorized sellers.

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (MFDA) has issued a public warning against the use of three cosmetic products after laboratory testing detected dangerously high levels of mercury and lead, raising serious concerns over potential health risks. The regulator declared Gori Beauty Cream, Face Fresh Gold (Beauty Cream + Beauty Serum), and Golden Star Beauty Cream to be of substandard quality after investigations confirmed that the products contained heavy metals exceeding the prescribed safety limits.

According to the MFDA, prolonged use of these cosmetic products may cause severe health complications, including damage to the kidneys, nervous system, and skin. Consumers have been strongly advised to immediately stop using, purchasing, or distributing the identified products to avoid potential health hazards.

The investigation also revealed significant violations of mandatory labeling regulations. The regulator found that the cosmetic products did not display essential information such as the manufacturer's name and address, batch number, manufacturing date, and expiry date. The absence of these mandatory details has further intensified concerns regarding the authenticity, traceability, and safety of the products.

In response to the findings, the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration has directed retailers, wholesalers, distributors, and e-commerce platforms across the state to immediately discontinue the sale and stocking of the identified cosmetic products. Businesses have also been instructed to submit reports to the Food and Drug Administration detailing the quantity of products recalled from the market as well as the remaining inventory in their possession.

The administration has urged consumers to purchase cosmetic products only from authorized sellers and to carefully verify that all mandatory product information is clearly displayed on the packaging before making a purchase. The MFDA has further appealed to the public not to use unverified cosmetic products and to report any suspicious or unlabeled beauty products available in the market to the authorities.
